18日晚間網路上突然出現冒用新加坡總理府辦公室識別標幟的網站，宣稱前新加坡總理李光耀已經辭世，而假網頁相關截圖與偽造訊息隨即在網路流竄。
新加坡《海峽時報》隨即向新加坡總理府辦公室查證消息真偽，而總理府辦公室回應說，他們在18日下午發布李光耀病情進一步惡化的聲明後，就沒有再發布任何關於李光耀的新訊息。
總理府辦公室已將冒名假網站報警處理。而總理府官方網站18日晚也出現無法連結上網的問題，截至午夜，網站首頁仍持續打出「依計劃進行維護」的訊息。
美國「有線電視新聞網」（CNN）旗下的突發新聞推特帳戶@cnnbrk受假消息誤導，率先發文報導李光耀辭世。經新國政府澄清是假消息後，該帳戶隨著發文更正。
